Schools and religion should be separated

I AGREE with Kenneth Houston (Letters, November 22) that it’s a bad idea to build ‘faith schools’, especially with public money.

Schools and religion should be separated

Surely the aim should be to unite children in the hope they’ll grow up to remain united, whatever their faith, rather than divide them now and risk them remaining divided.

This idea should be dropped. Religion should be separated from education. I suspect the sticking point here is that the Government is afraid to oppose the demands of the Catholic hierarchy who want to continue controlling the education of Catholics and, this being the case, the Government can’t refuse the demands of the Muslim ‘hierarchy’ to control the education of Muslims.
