I’m forever indebted to compassionate carers
My husband suffered a massive stroke and was in hospital for a week before passing away this summer.
The care he received from the moment he entered St Anthony’s ward in the Mercy Hospital in Cork was nothing short of extraordinary.
It was clear to all that he was dying and yet they cared for him in a compassionate and humane way that enabled him to meet his end with dignity. I have heard the horror stories that people have had to endure at the hands of our healthcare system and have nothing but sympathy for them.
However, my own brief experience left me only with feelings of gratitude and utmost respect for all connected with the Mercy Hospital.
I will be grateful forever to them for allowing my beloved husband to die with grace.

WAS I seeing things on the TV news (November 15) when a 4x4 gas-guzzler with the Garda Ombudsman logo on the side came into view?
Would somebody please tell me what is the need for these big, fuel-wasting vehicles? Perhaps they are needed to go to an incident in a hurry ahead of the gardaí.
In view of recent noises made by Environment Minister John Gormley, I would be surprised if our other Green minister, Eamon Ryan, approves of such carry-on.
What a waste of public money.
