Make the pay hikes performance-related

THE recent pay rises for top politicians and public servants are hardly justified given the mess the country is in at the moment.

The national cancer strategy is three years behind schedule with patients travelling long distances for treatment. Beds, waiting lists, lack of acute care, health costs and a myriad of other issues are still awaiting remedial action by the Government.

Ministers should defer any pay increase until these issues are resolved instead of lining their own pockets while making token efforts to do so.
