Question for planners

YOU report (August 18) how the housing plan for the old Nemo Rangers’ grounds was blocked by An Bord Pleanála after getting planning permission from Cork City Council.

What was interesting was one reason the Bord Pleanála’ inspector cited for refusal — two terraced houses due for demolition in the application were listed as being of “regional importance” in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.

How then did the city council planning department grant permission in the first place? Did the planners fail to check the inventory, or had they even heard of it?
