Irish couple found dead at Spanish holiday resort

An Irish couple has been found dead at a holiday resort in Spain after their two teenage children discovered their bodies.

The couple, aged 45 and 50, were found at a rented property in the Cap Blanc estate in Cullera, Valencia, on Tuesday afternoon, according to local media reports.

The Guardia Civil homicide unit in Valence has launched an investigation into their deaths, although investigators have not ruled out accidental deaths.

Local reports said the bodies were found in or beside a hot tub and had apparent wounds to their bodies. A sample of the jacuzzi water was also taken to be analysed.

The couple's children, aged 14 and 16, alerted the property owner, who contacted emergency services. The children are now being supported by social services in Cullera.

Forensic officers are examining the property and evidence is being gathered to establish the circumstances of the deaths.

The bodies have been taken for autopsies, which are expected to help determine the cause of death.

Spanish authorities have also begun efforts to contact the couple's relatives in Ireland, according to local reports.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has been contacted for comment.
