The increasingly multi-ethnic face of Irish society is depicted in the latest CSO census figures showing that foreign nationals now make up 10% of the population.

However, the most revealing sign of the country’s ethnic transformation is reflected in figures showing that more than a quarter of all black people living in the Republic were born here.
