IT was shocking recently to read of Killarney town council’s decision to cut down a 200-year-old oak in the interests of ‘road safety’.

Yet again we seek to place the blame for accidents on inanimate objects. We have dangerous bends, dangerous bridges and now dangerous trees.

Walking, cycling, rain and darkness are all dangerous, too.
