AN aggressive rural development organisation with a strong emphasis on village development is urgently needed. It could redress the growing imbalance between rural and urban areas.

There is a great need to stem the growing bias against rural Ireland. Young people no longer see a future in rural areas and the continuous flow into cities for work and leisure is leading to the breakdown of rural communities, dilapidation in villages and adding to the massive social problems already existing in urban areas.

Almost 50% of our population still lives in rural areas, small villages or country towns. Rural Ireland has been victimised in many ways in recent times.
