Bin bargain alcohol

IRELAND’S alcohol problem will not be helped by restricting either the serving of alcohol in pubs or off-licence opening hours for today, St Patrick’s Day.

Nor will it be solved by appealing to people’s own sense of responsibility, if certain advertised ‘special offers’ on alcohol are allowed.

We don’t see the drinks industry telling supermarkets to stop selling its products in such bargain offers.
