Beautiful towns and city are being turned into a concrete jungle

“CORK City Councillors have warned developers that they will not bow to pressure to rezone sports grounds for developments,” (The Irish Examiner, February 28, 2007).

Beautiful towns and city are being turned into a concrete jungle

As a member of Cork County Council and Midleton Town Council, I support the views expressed by my city colleagues. There could come a time when the youngsters of Cork city and county will have no alternative but to play football on the streets. Reason: they will have nowhere else to play.

Slowly but surely our beautiful city and towns are being turned into concrete jungles, with scant consideration for the recreational needs of our people, and no thought for future generations.

A combination of greed and questionable planning policies is biting at the heart of our city and county, taking away their character and sacrificing our quality of life for prosperity.

It is not too late to make sure those who develop the concrete jungles do not win the war.
