Littered roads would drive you to distraction

I TRAVEL the N25 from Rosslare to Cork twice daily and I regularly travel the N20 from Cork to Limerick.

It saddens me very much each morning to see such a huge volume of litter on verges and hedgerows for the whole journey.

I have seen beds, fertiliser bags, bottles, tables, black bags full of refuse, large cardboard boxes (near the entrance to Little Island) and many other forms of dumped material.

It is very sad, as this is such an important route from Rosslare to Cork with many important visitor attractions en route, especially at Midleton, Fota Island and Cobh.

Almost every few feet of the way our hedgerows are defaced by plastic and other rubbish, and one can hardly see the grass verges for the amount of filth and litter.

This is also true of many other main routes around the country.

What must visitors — tourists and business people — think? I can only hope they are not too disappointed.

It is very upsetting to see resources being put into industry and tourism when our beautiful landscape is being ruined in this way.
