GM resolution favours big business

THE six main points of the EU draft resolution on GM crops might as well have been written by the chemical companies themselves, and probably was, behind the scenes.

* “Efforts to develop biotechnology and genetic engineering should be encouraged to facilitate more sustainable farming practices, better food, increased yields and more diverse products.”

Comment: GM farming practices have already proven to be unsustainable in the context of severe damage to the environment; some GM food causes illnesses in some rats and allergies in some humans; yields are often less than with traditional farming methods; products will be considerably less diverse (that is the whole point of GM foods).
