How about spending money on real issues?

IN his Budget speech, Brian Cowen said: “Public finances have never been in better shape.” If this is true, then what about spending some of that money on the sections of Irish society that genuinely need it most.

How about spending money on real issues?

Ireland’s economy is held up by the Government as a blueprint for other European countries. In reality, as far as a significant sector of the population is concerned, it’s more like a third world country — of which many could still give Ireland a run for its money in some areas.

What about the lack of health services? Why should people have to travel from one centre to another for treatment? What about the people who lie on trolleys waiting for medical attention?

What of the youth who have nothing to do but to hang around bus shelters or street corners drinking? What of those with disabilities or learning disorders? What about the crumbling schools? What of the homeless people?

Does anyone in Government really care about any of these type of issues?
