THERE has been much comment in the media recently regarding the kindness of the Taoiseach’s friends in helping him out in his hour of need.

But where was the media debate when RTÉ’s chief news correspondent Charlie Bird was helped out by his friends on the editorial team of the station’s main evening news with thousands of euro worth of free publicity for his new book?

Did I hear talk of double standards?
