Hospitals going the way of railways and canals

THE attempted downgrade of Roscommon Hospital is an example of the lunacy that was pervasive in the 1960s when government was downgrading railways and canals.

Nowadays they bring in consultants, usually from Britain, who have absolutely no experience of Ireland and who apply their own regional approach to our towns and villages.

One can now see the results of this thinking throughout the country with some places having near deserted main streets and ghastly out-of-town shopping centres.
