Leaving Certificate - Keep exam results in perspective

FOR about 55,000 young people, today will bring a certain amount of understandable trepidation when the Leaving Certificate results become available.

Inescapable though they are, they are hardly a matter of life-and-death and they should be put into perspective. What they offer is a possible road map to the future, but it is only an indication of what direction may be taken. There are so many exciting options available nowadays, that the direction may be changed for the better of the pupil.

While State examinations are important, they are not a preparation for life and there will, in the course of time, be far more consequential tests to be faced.
