Passing the buck

TRANSPORT Minister Martin Cullen says the decision on when to open the Cork airport terminal was up to the Cork Airport Authority, and “if they can’t manage to open the blooming terminal after getting €200 million to spend on it, that’s a poor outlook for the future”. (Irish Examiner, June 8).

Passing the buck

I would like to point out to a slightly rattled sounding Mr Cullen that the decision to open the Cork terminal ultimately lies with the Dublin Airport Authority.

As with so many issues, this Government adopts a ‘pass the buck’ attitude.

Mary Harney passes the buck to the HSE whenever she is asked to account for the state of the health service, while officials in the Attorney General’s office are blamed for the statutory rape crisis.

This Government won’t even take responsibility for the fact that Cork was promised a debt-free airport, but it looks like we will now be left with a new terminal swamped in debt.
