Why get into a spin over roundabout?
I was disappointed at the councillors’ congratulations to the contractors for working at night and weekends.
This is what I assumed they would and should be doing anyway.
It’s also disappointing that this is how low our local authority rates performance, in that Cllr McGrath considers it a good thing that the contractors worked late at night, particularly on a flyover which was delayed for years.
Perhaps the contractors could work later one night to rearrange the lanes on the ‘magic roundabout’ so that they actually make sense.
I would urge Cllr McGrath also to concentrate more on local issues such as:
1. Providing details of and solutions to the transport and infrastructure problems that will be created by the construction of at least 800 houses in Carrigaline over the next few years and
2. Provide solutions to the pile-up that results in 40-minute delays in the mornings to cover the eight miles (an average speed of 12mph) from Carrigaline through Douglas by staggering school times and making Douglas village one-way.
The positive note is that the roundabout contractors have shown that a large project can be finished months ahead of schedule, so I look forward to each project in the future finishing early or at least on time.
I also assume that the project is five months under budget and the funds can be provided for some other worthy development.
But perhaps the money is needed for any more unofficially striking rail drivers.
