I WAS bemused by recent claims of Conradh na Gaeilge in relation to Enda Kenny’s policies on the Irish language.

Conradh’s harsh rhetoric risks alienating public

Conradh have said his policies are “anti-Irish“, even though Mr Kenny is a fluent Irish speaker; “anti-academic“, even though he is a qualified teacher and “anti-European”, even though he is the leader of the most pro-European political party in Ireland.

The only approach that the lobby seems to have is to try to discredit Mr Kenny personally or to demean his love of the Irish language. They have advanced few, if any, cogent criticisms of his policies. Conradh na Gaeilge need to re-evaluate their tactics.
