Kehlan, Olwen and Brian discuss this week’s news which includes:
- Increase in employees facing reprimands and even job losses as employers use Social Media to keep tabs on them.
- The new €500m state bank is designed with SMEs in mind. What will this ‘new’ bank bring to small businesses and if a business can’t get loan from the bank, should it get one from the state?
Kehlan travels to Shannon in Co. Clare to talk to Tim Cummins from AltraTech. Tim founded AltraTech in response to the Horse meat scandal which enveloped the UK and Ireland last year. They are developing a silicon chip which can detect tainted meats and determine the type of meat being tested.
Aodan Enright started Smarter Egg in response to a need for more in depth and honest business opinions. Smarter Egg facilitates round table talks and forums aimed at developing the owner/ manager by allowing others to give their insights, ideas and solutions into discussions and presentations.
On the final part of this week’s show Kehlan talks with Ray Owens, one of the co-founders of Chia Bia. The health benefits of chia seeds seems almost endless, from sports nutrition to helping to cut cholesterol these small seeds are helping Ray and his business grow big. Ray explains how they started and why it’s right time for their business to expand.
