Tánaiste and finance minister Simon Harris has welcomed a new baby girl just days before the budget.

His wife Caoimhe gave birth to the couple’s third child on Friday.

The Fine Gael leader and his wife have a daughter, Saoirse, 7, and a son, Cillian, 5.

It came amid surprise from the media when a planned press conference with public expenditure minister Jack Chambers, which is held every Friday before the budget, did not go ahead.

It is understood that Mr Harris will take paternity leave once the budget is delivered and is working this weekend on the budget at Government Buildings.
