Ms Hourigan has also been stripped of the chair of the Budgetary Oversight Committee and removed from all Oireachtas Committees.

Green Party TD Neasa Hourigan has been suspended from the party for 15 months after voting against the Government on the eviction ban.

Ms Hourigan has also been stripped of the chair of the Budgetary Oversight Committee and removed from all Oireachtas Committees.

Ms Hourigan has voted against the Government three times in this Dáil. She lost the party whip last year after voting against the Government on motion around the location of the National Maternity Hospital.

In the early days of the Dáil she voted against the Government on pandemic-era housing legislation, a move which cost her her role as party whip.

Ms Hourigan had voted against the Government on two of four votes on the eviction ban and abstained on two others.

A statement from the party said that Ms Hourigan can apply for readmittance after the 15 months.

"The parliamentary party regrets having to take these steps but believes that effectiveness in government relies on unity in every vote."

At the Sinn Féin parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday, Mary Lou McDonald told her party the Government move was "despicable".

“The government may have won their vote this evening, but they have categorically lost the argument. It is pyrrhic victory."
