Arrests expected in connection with death of Clare teen Bryan Lowe

Gardaí are expected to make arrests in connection with the hit-and-run killing of a teenage boy in Co Clare.

Moments before Bryan Lowe was struck by a vehicle at Cottage Cross, near Clonlara village, at around 11pm last Friday, it is believed that attempts had been made to deliberately ram him off the road. The teenager had been travelling on an e-bike.

Detectives investigating the 17-year-old’s death are following a definite line of enquiry after the car, suspected to have been involved in the incident, was found burnt out.

The car has been linked to members of a criminal gang in Limerick.

A friend of the family said there is a fear that someone had a “gripe” with Bryan before the incident occurred.

Gardaí are looking at the possibility that there may have been some kind of an altercation between Bryan and the driver of the car before things escalated.

Several houses have been searched as part of the garda investigation.

At the weekend, gardaí started the search for the driver and occupants of a silver/gold coloured Skoda Octavia, seen driving in the Castleconnell and Clonlara areas, between 6pm last Friday and 11am last Saturday.

Investigators released a photo of the Skoda car, with registration number 05-C-5982, which was partially burned out in the Castleconnell area last Saturday morning.

As preparations for his funeral - expected on Friday - are underway, videos of the teenager have been posted on Facebook by his grieving mother, Crystal.

“I’m heartbroken. Bryan was my only son... an innocent boy, Jesus, give me the strength to bury my only son.

“Bryan, I love you.”
