Motorcyclist, 50s, dies after crash in West Cork

A motorcyclist had dies following a road traffic collision in West Cork on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, who was aged in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened on the R587 near Gloun North, Dunmanway, at around 2.30pm.

The collision involved a motorbike and a van, and occurred at approximately 2.30pm.

The remains of the deceased were taken to Cork University hospital were a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. 

No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed for a number of hours for technical examination but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Any road users travelling in the area between 2.15pm and 3pm, who may have camera footage (including dashcam) are asked to make it available to Gardaí.

A total of 111 people have died on Irish roads so far this year, compared with 99 during the same period in 2025, an increase of 12 fatalities.
