Limerick City and County Council has lodged a planning application for a park-and-ride facility ahead of the Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor.

The temporary development would be located at Collopy’s Cross, Attyflin, Patrickswell, close to Adare on the N21.

The site, part of a wider transport plan for the Ryder Cup, would provide more than 3,900 parking spaces.

Visitors would park on site and be transported by bus to Adare Manor.

The temporary park-and-ride will require new vehicle access points off the R526 and will also use existing accesses on the R526, as well as the Enterprise Centre access road.

The council said all installations associated with the park-and-ride facility are temporary and removable, with the lands to be returned to their existing use within one month of the tournament’s completion.

The Part 8 planning application is being submitted following separate applications for other facilities, including sites in Annacotty, Croagh North and South, and Croagh West.

Overall, Ryder Cup organisers are working to secure 25,000 parking spaces across multiple locations to transport people to and from Adare Manor for the duration of the tournament.

As the lands are public, councillors must approve, reject, or amend the proposed development. The public can also make submissions and view the plans at County Hall in Dooradoyle or via the council’s online planning application portal.

Meanwhile, a temporary railway platform will be in place in Adare for the Ryder Cup. Earlier this month, transport minister Darragh O’Brien said he aims to make the train platform a permanent fixture after the tournament.

The move would ease heavy traffic in the village and “complement” the new bypass, which will connect Croagh to Adare as part of the broader Foynes to Limerick road scheme.

The 2027 Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in Limerick from September 13 to 19. It will be the second time Ireland has hosted the Ryder Cup, after The K Club in 2006.
