The cyclist who died in a collision in Cork City centre on Thursday had moved to Cork from Japan earlier this year.

The 26-year-old woman was killed in a collision involving a truck and a bicycle at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road at around 6.15pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Garda sources said the woman worked in a restaurant in Cork City and was also believed to have held a second job in retail.

She was in Ireland on a working visa.

The road was closed for several hours to allow a technical examination by a Garda forensic collision investigator.

Gardaí do not believe weather was a factor in the incident.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. They are also asking road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm to make this footage available to investigators.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 452 2000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Dumper truck incident

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s died in Ballycotton, Co Cork, after an accident involving a dumper truck.

Gardaí and emergency services arrived at Church Rd at 3.30pm after the alarm was raised.

It is understood the man was carrying out works in the area when his dumper truck struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body will be removed to Cork University Hospital for an autopsy.

Garda forensic collision investigators will attend the scene, and the L3633 road has been closed with local diversions in place.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and will carry out a full investigation. The coroner has also been informed, and an inquest will take place in due course.
