A fire at a waste management facility on the northside of Cork city has been quickly brought under control.

Environmental officers are now conducting inspections at the Cork Mini Skips compound on John F. Connolly Road in Churchfield following the incident earlier this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 11:25 a.m. when smoke was spotted coming from a compactor machine in one of the buildings.

Four units of Cork City Fire Brigade responded quickly and tackled what was described as a small fire, but one that had the potential to spread rapidly given the nature of some of the waste and recycling material processed on-site.

The fire was brought under control quickly, and damage was confined to the machinery only.

A large quantity of material was also removed from the building and doused with water to prevent re-ignition.

No injuries were reported.
