Cork commuters faced lengthy traffic delays this morning due to a number of collisions near the city.

Shortly after 7.30am, Transport Infrastructure Ireland reported that a multi-vehicle collision had occurred on the N40 between junction 7 Douglas and junction 6 Kinsale.

Before 8am, a separate multi-vehicle crash was reported on the N25 near the slip road to the Dunkettle Interchange in the city/westbound direction. A vehicle also suffered a breakdown on the N40 near the median of junction 9 Bloomfield.

The incidents saw traffic heavily backed on the M8, the South Link, and along much of the N25/N8 heading towards the city.

While no injuries were reported, and the crashes were cleared by 9am or so, motorists are still moving bumper-to-bumper around much of the Dunkettle/South Ring network.

A status yellow fog warning affecting Cork and 20 other counties had been in place this morning, though this lapsed a short time ago.
