Six homes raided and 30 arrested following major Garda operation in Limerick

Gardaí carried out searches at properties in Newcastle West on Tuesday morning.

At least 30 people have been arrested as part of a major Garda operation targeting criminal activity in Limerick.

Some six homes were raided by gardaí from the Limerick County Community Engagement and Crime Functional areas, supported by the Regional Support Unit, Limerick Divisional Roads Policing and divisional drug and detective units on Tuesday morning.

The properties were located in Newcastle West.

More than 50 garda personnel were involved in the operation, which was focused on targeting, disrupting and detecting individuals engaged in criminal activities, including the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

Six homes were raided and 30 individuals were arrested for various offences, including outstanding bench warrants. 

Those arrested on warrant are due to appear before the courts on Tuesday.

Two of those arrested are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Co Limerick. 

These arrests were made in connection with ongoing investigations into recent theft and drug-related incidents. 

Meanwhile, illegal drugs with an estimated street value of €5,000 were seized, alongside several items of evidential value. The drugs are pending analysis. 

A number of vehicles were also seized and one man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
