A crew of RNLI lifeboat volunteers evacuated a man from Cape Clear Island off the West Cork coast late on Wednesday night after he suffered a medical emergency.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10.50pm, and the crew of seven set off from Baltimore station a short time later.
Despite choppy conditions, poor visibility, and a south easterly force 5 wind, they arrived on Cape Clear just after 11.25pm.
After performing a quick assessment on the man, a resident on the island, they brought him onboard their all-weather lifeboat and set off back to the mainland.
At approximately 11.55pm, the volunteers returned to the station in Baltimore and handed the evacuee over to the care of a waiting HSE ambulance crew.
There seven RNLI volunteers involved in the operation were coxswain Aidan Bushe, mechanic Brian McSweeney and crew members Kieran Collins, Don O’Donovan, Jerry Smith, Stuart Musgrave and Maria Coleman.
Exactly two weeks ago, volunteers from the station in Baltimore also performed another evacuation from Cape Clear Island.
