Man, 50s, arrested after teenager stabbed in Co Kerry housing estate 

Gardaí were called to the Fertha Drive housing estate in Caherciveen at 2.20am on Monday morning

The youth, who is aged in his late teens, was taken to University Hospital Kerry with serious injuries. His condition has since been stabilised.

A teenager has been stabbed in a housing estate in Caherciveen, Co Kerry, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardaí were called to the Fertha Drive housing estate in the town at 2.20am.

In a statement, gardaí said a male youth in his late teens was taken to University Hospital Kerry "for treatment of apparent stab wounds". 

"His injuries are understood to be serious but he is currently in a stable condition."

A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is currently detained at a Kerry Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He can be held for up to 24 hours.

A forensic examination of the scene is due to take place.

Gardaí said investigations were ongoing.
