Man in critical condition after serious assault in Roscommon
Gardaí appeal for witnesses after Roscommon assault leaves man critically ill.
A man in his 30s remains in a critical condition in hospital following a serious assault in Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he continues to receive treatment for critical injuries.
The incident occurred at around 1am on Thursday, January 1, on Barrack Street in the town. Gardaí were alerted to the assault shortly afterwards and have since launched an investigation.
A man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested in connection with the assualt and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Castlerea Garda Station to coordinate inquiries.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the vicinity of Barrack Street between 12.45am and 1.15am, to come forward.
They are also seeking dashcam or other video footage from the area during that time which may assist the investigation.
