Oral rape charges were brought against a 26-year-old man who was arrested at his home in Cork on Tuesday.

Detective Sergeant Éilís Murphy arrested the defendant and brought three charges against the man.

The defendant replied to the first charge of carrying out a sexual assault on the young woman on February 16, 2025: “I did not do it.” To the following two charges of oral rape of the same woman on the same occasion, the defendant made no reply.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions were for trial by indictment at the Central Criminal Court or for a signed plea to be entered at Cork District Court and sent forward for sentencing at the Central Criminal Court.

Defence solicitor Eddie Burke said a book of evidence would be required.

Judge Miriam Walsh adjourned the case until July 14 for preparation and service of the book.

Det. Sgt Murphy said there was no objection to bail on conditions, including the surrender of his passport, having no contact directly or indirectly with the injured party, signing on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at his local garda station and notifying gardaí of any intention to change address.

There is a prohibition on identification of parties to the case. No details of the allegations that gave rise to the charges were outlined.
