A 23-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with alleged hoax calls made to the emergency services.
Court presenter Sergeant Trish O’Sullivan told Bantry District Court that Declan Doyle O’Donovan, of Kilcoman, Old Head, Kinsale, faced three charges in relation to alleged hoax calls to the emergency services made on October 27, 2025.
Doyle O’Donovan is charged with persistently making telephone calls without reasonable cause contrary to the provisions of Section 13, 1 (c) of the Post Office Amendment act 1951 as amended by the Communications Regulation Act 2007.Â
The court was told that investigations into the alleged hoax calls were ongoing and directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would be required for the case to progress.
Sergeant Kevin Heffernan from Kinsale Garda Station gave evidence of arrest charge and caution and said there were no garda objections to bail being granted on certain conditions.Â
Sgt Heffernan said Doyle O’Donovan was arrested at Bandon Garda Station at 6.30pm on November 12, 2025, and he made no reply when the charges were put to him.
Judge Joanne Carroll remanded Doyle O’Donovan on bail on his own bond of €200 to appear at Kinsale District Court sitting in Bandon on January 15, 2026.Â
He was granted bail on condition that he signs on once-a-week at Kinsale Garda Station on Saturdays between 10am and 5pm, is of good behaviour, abstains from intoxicants in public, resides at his home address and is contactable by mobile phone.
