The injured party received a threatening WhatsApp message which stated: 'Karma is coming your way. You will reap what you sew. You are disgusting but you already know that. You will never be happy. Your life is set for a path of misery… What goes around comes around, skank.'

A 32-year-old woman appeared in court arising out of allegations she carried out “a campaign of false and offensive information” against another woman.

Megan Winters, of Clonard, The Lawn, Grenagh, Co Cork, appeared at Cork District Court charged under the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020.

She faces charges that between May 7, 2022, and August 19, 2022, she was involved in three counts of sending a threatening or grossly offensive communication to a woman with intent to cause harm.

Judge Mary Dorgan was given an outline of the allegations so she could decide whether or not she would accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case at district court level.

She accepted jurisdiction and adjourned the case until November 25 so a copy of the prosecution evidence could be sent to the defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly.

Sergeant Aisling Murphy said in her outline of the allegations the complainant “reported to gardaí that she was the victim of a campaign of false and offensive information being circulated on social media platforms by a woman known to her, namely Megan Winters.

“Between May 2022 and October 2022, it was alleged by the injured party that Megan Winters sent messages.

“On May 7, 2022, the injured party received a threatening WhatsApp message which stated: 'Karma is coming your way. You will reap what you sew. You are disgusting but you already know that. You will never be happy. Your life is set for a path of misery… What goes around comes around, skank. When it does it's going to hit you hard.'

“On August 19, 2022, the injured party allegedly received a threatening message on Snapchat which stated: "You are dead when I catch you".

Sgt Murphy said the third message complained of was posted on Facebook on October 28, 2022. A picture of the complainant was posted with a series of insulting terms, including “coke whore and home wrecker”.
