Man, 30s, arrested following armed robbery in Dublin suburb

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s following a robbery at a retail premises in Ballymun, Dublin, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
The incident happened shortly before 2.30pm when gardaí responded to reports of a robbery at a store on Marewood Crescent.
A man entered the premises armed with a knife, threatening staff and stealing property before fleeing the scene on foot.
A swift response from local uniformed and armed gardaí, supported by the Armed Support Unit (ASU), led to the man’s arrest in the nearby Sandyhill Gardens area.
Sources say that gardaí engaged with the man for an extended period, attempting to calm him and persuade him to drop his weapon, eventually officers deployed a less-than-lethal force option to disarm and detain him safely.
He is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in the Dublin region. He is being questioned in connection with the robbery and several similar incidents in recent days.
The investigation is ongoing, and gardaí are continuing to follow all lines of inquiry.
