Gardaí are treating the killing of a Dublin man two weeks ago as a possible domestic incident.

Detectives arrested a woman on Tuesday on suspicion of his murder. It is understood that the couple have a child.

The man, aged in his 60s, was found outside a house in the Balbriggan area of north county Dublin in the early hours of August 10 last.

He had suffered a number of serious injuries. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died the following day.

A statement issued by Garda HQ said: “Gardaí in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discovery of a man with serious injuries found on a residential road in the Balbriggan area in the early hours of Saturday, August 10.

“The man was removed from the scene to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance and later died on Sunday, August 11.” 

The statement added: “A post mortem was subsequently completed and the results of which are not being disclosed for operational reasons.

“A woman aged in her 40s was arrested in Balbriggan this morning on suspicion of murder and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in North Dublin.” 

It is understood autopsy results and forensic analysis have led to the arrest. The woman can be held for a maximum of 24 hours, excluding rest breaks.

Senior officers will liaise with the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether or not to release the suspect or press charges.
