Gardaí in Dublin seized half a million euro in an operation targeting organised crime groups.

As part of an intelligence-led operation, officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau arrested a woman, aged in her 40s, for an alleged offence in the Dublin 2 area.

During Friday's operation, approximately €500,000 in cash was seized along with a vacuum packing machine and documentation.

The woman is currently being detained at a Dublin garda station where she can be held for up to seven days.

Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly said the seizure is a significant blow to an organised crime group.

"I commend the hard work and dedication of all the Gardaí involved in this operation," he said.

"Such work demonstrates An Garda Síochána's commitment to disrupting criminal networks and preventing money laundering."

Investigations are ongoing.
