Teenager arrested in connection with hit-and-run that killed UL student released without charge

A man in his late teens who was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident which claimed the life of a University of Limerick (UL) student last month has been released without charge.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
21-year-old Joe Drennan, a journalism student and a native of Mountrath in Co Laois, was struck by a car as he waited at a bus stop on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, Limerick at approximately 9.50pm on the night of Friday, October 13.
The driver who hit him also crashed into another car, injuring its male driver and and his female.
The driver also failed to remain at the scene.
Following the crash, Joe was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.
A talented student journalist, he was the editor of the UL-based newspaper the .
Earlier this year, he was shortlisted for the Journalist of the Year award at the annual Student Media Awards.
On Sunday, gardaí confirmed that a man, aged in his late teens, had been arrested in relation to the October 13 crash.
He was detained under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, at a Garda Station in Limerick City.
"Investigations are ongoing," a Garda spokesperson said.
