High Court rules four of six Harry Clarke windows in Bewley's café belong to landlord

Bewley's had said the windows were commissioned from Harry Clarke by the original tenant in the 1920s, have been in the ownership of the tenant, are the tenant’s fixtures and cannot be said to be the property of the landlord. File photo: Leon Farrell/Photocall Ireland

Four of the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in Bewley's café, Grafton Street, Dublin, belong to the landlord, the High Court has ruled.

However, two other windows are the property of the tenant and operators of the café, Mr Justice Denis McDonald found. The six stained-glass works by the renowned illustrator and stained-glass artist are believed to be worth €1 million.
