Man accused of raping teenage girl in Midleton faces retrial after conviction is quashed

A 29-year-old man who had his rape conviction quashed after the Court of Appeal ruled that interventions made by the judge during the trial “were likely to have rendered the verdict unsafe” is to face a retrial.

The man had pleaded not guilty to one count of rape against a 17-year-old female at an address in Midleton, Co. Cork, in August 2017.
