Cork traffic and weather: Dry and bright conditions with sunny spells expected

Highest temperatures of 16C to 18C in a light northwesterly or variable breeze are predicted.

Wednesday night will be dry with clear spells at first but will turn cloudier overnight with the chance of drizzle near the west coast.

Lowest temperatures of 10C to 12C in a light to moderate southerly breeze are expected.

Thursday will be a breezier day with moderate to fresh southerly winds developing.

It will be a mostly dry start to the day with sunny spells, however, it will be cloudier throughout the afternoon with patchy rain and drizzle.

Cloud will thicken across the country throughout the day with more persistent rain spreading over the western half of the country by evening.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C are predicted.

Thursday night will be cloudy at first with rain and drizzle spreading eastwards.

Rain will clear from most areas overnight, though patches of light rain and drizzle will linger in parts of the south and east until morning.

Southwesterly winds will also ease light to moderate, with lowest temperatures of 9C to 13C expected.

Traffic 

Traffic is building gradually along the N40 in Cork city this morning, with further congestion expected along the M28 and towards the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

Met Éireann has said Friday will see lingering drizzle in the east and south in the early morning, with clear and brighter conditions expected throughout the afternoon.

There will be a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers with highest temperatures of 14C to 17C in moderate southwest winds expected.

Friday night will be dry with clear spells, though scattered showers will continue in Atlantic coastal counties.

Lowest temperatures of 10C to 14C in moderate southwest winds are predicted.

Saturday will see plenty of dry and bright weather to start with sunny spells and scattered showers.

However, more persistent rain will develop in the west and north through the day with more frequent showers developing elsewhere.

It will be breezy with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C are expected.

Sunday will be generally cloudy with widespread rain, possibly turning heavy in some places.

Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C are predicted, with moderate to fresh southerly winds easing light to moderate throughout the day.

The forecaster further said that low pressure will remain dominant next week, with unsettled wet and blustery conditions at times.

Daytime temperatures will generally be in the mid-teens.
