A man arrested in connection with a fatal house fire that killed a four-year-old child and his grand-aunt has been released without charge.

A file will now be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which will decide on whether to press charges.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested on Wednesday.

Four-year-old Tadhg Farrell and his 60-year-old grand-aunt Mary Holt were killed in a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry, Co Offaly, on December 6.

The little boy was having a sleepover with his grandmother and grand-aunt to watch the Late Late Toy Show.

Gardaí arrested five people this week in connection with the suspected arson attack on the Offaly home – four men and a teenager.

On Friday, a man was charged in connection with the suspected arson attack. Michael Dunne, 22, with an address in Co Kildare, was charged with criminal damage and endangerment arising out of the fire which led to the deaths of the child and his grand-aunt.

Mr Dunne is the first person to be charged in relation to the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.
