Man due in court over killing of informer Denis Donaldson
Denis Donaldson
A man has been arrested and charged in relation to the killing of Denis Donaldson in Donegal.
The 55-year-old, a senior Sinn Féin official and close colleague of Gerry Adams, was shot dead at a remote cottage near Glenties, Donegal, in 2006 after being exposed as a British spy.
He had admitted his role as a police and MI5 agent over 20 years.
In 2009, the dissident republican group the Real IRA claimed responsibility for Mr Donaldson's killing.
Gardaí today confirmed that officers investigating the murder of Mr Donaldson had arrested a man in his late 40s following his extradition from Scotland on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.
The man will appear before the Special Criminal Court this afternoon.
The arrest was carried out with the assistance of An Garda Síochána Extradition Unit, Garda National Bureau of Investigation and the Irish Air Corps.
