Breaking: One dead following bus crash in Dublin city centre
Ambulances and appliances from Dublin Fire Brigade were also at the scene. A tent has been erected around the crash site, and a Garda cordon has been put in place
Emergency services are responding to a bus crash in Dublin city centre in which one person has died.
Gardaí are attending the incident on the pedestrianised North Earl St.
The incident happened on the corner of Marlborough St and North Earl St, with large cordons in place on the surrounding roads, stretching to the Abbey Theatre and O'Connell St.
Ambulances and appliances from Dublin Fire Brigade were also at the scene. A tent has been erected around the crash site, and a Garda cordon has been put in place.
Speaking in the Dáil, justice minister Jim O’Callaghan confirmed that one person had died in the collision on North Earl St.
“I regret to say that there has been a fatality there, and three others have been taken to hospital,” he confirmed.
The front window of the bus has been smashed and it is understood that the incident is being treated as a road crash.
Luas Green Line services were suspended between Parnell St and St Stephen’s Green because of the incident.
“Obviously, our thoughts are with the family of the person who has been fatally injured, and indeed the people who are in hospital. We wish them well as a society.”
A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic incident involving a bus on North Earl St, Dublin 1 today Thursday 5th February 2026.
"No further details are available at this time."
Bus Éireann also confirmed the incident, with a spokesperson saying: "Bus Éireann can confirm that this afternoon, 5 February, one of our vehicles was involved in an incident in the Talbot St/North Earl St area of Dublin city. The vehicle was not in service at the time of the incident.
"Emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel attended the scene. Bus Éireann is offering its full support to the relevant authorities and will provide any additional assistance required."
In a statement, Dublin Lord Mayor Ray McAdam said that a full emergency response was put in place as services reacted "decisively" to the incident.
"My thoughts are with those who have been injured and with their families at this difficult time," he said.
"I want to reassure Dubliners that the situation is being actively managed, and I would ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.”
