The Luas Green Line in Dublin remains out of action for a second day after a power outage on Wednesday.

Luas operator Transdev said there will be no services on the tram line from Broombridge to Brides Glen. All Red Line services are running normally.

Engineers identified the fault within a “critical low-voltage safety” system — the 48-volt network — not the overhead power supply.

"It is part of the safety network that links substations to the central control room and allows power to be safely controlled and monitored across the line," a Transdev spokesperson said.

"This safety system is designed to shut down power to the overhead lines in the event of an emergency. The system is currently detecting a fault condition, and for safety reasons will not permit power to be fully restored until that condition is resolved," the spokesperson added.

As a result, Green Line services remain suspended while repair works continue.

"Multiple Luas technicians are working to identify the source of the fault and restore power," the spokesperson said. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

During the suspension, Luas tickets will be accepted on Dublin Bus, Irish Rail services from Broombridge, the DART, and Go Ahead services.
