Motorcyclist, 20s, dies in crash in Laois

A motorcyclist has died following a single-vehicle crash in Co Laois. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on the N77 at the junction of the Portlaoise Road and Ballyroan Road in Abbeyleix at approximately 7.50pm on Tuesday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries reported.

The body of the deceased was subsequently removed to the mortuary at Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

The scene remains preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators on Wednesday. 

The road from Main Street in Abbeyleix to Tonduff Cross on the Portlaoise Road is closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians with camera footage who were in the area between 7pm and 8pm has been asked to make this available.
