Social media giant TikTok has informed the Government it will be seeking to cut as many as 300 jobs from its Dublin operations.

Government sources confirmed that they had been informed of the cuts.

In a statement, the Department of Enterprise said on Wednesday night that it received a “collective redundancy notification in relation to potential redundancies at Tiktok Technology Limited on March 4”.

Companies laying off large numbers of staff are required to submit a notification to the department in advance of the redundancies taking place.

The company employs approximately 3,000 people in Ireland.

Last month, the Chinese company announced a restructuring plan that would impact its Irish operations.

At the time, a spokesperson said it was undertaking a redesign of its training and quality team and it is “supporting affected employees through this transition to minimise the impact of the changes”.

The Chinese video-sharing platform — which established itself in Ireland in 2020 — has been heavily backed by the IDA. Like other social media companies based here, Ireland is responsible for regulating TikTok.

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance reportedly employs over 110,000 people across 30 countries.
