A man has been charged with the murder of Irish woman Sarah McNally in New York last weekend.
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner for Public Information (DCPI) said Marcin Pieciak, 36, with an address in Queens, was arrested just after 12.30pm on Monday, and was subsequently charged with one count of murder, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Sarah McNally, 41, who was originally from Longford, was attacked at work at The Céilí House pub in Maspeth, Queens on Saturday evening at approximately 6.30pm, by a man who was known to her.
She suffered a stab wound to the neck in the attack.
Police said a 911 call was made from the bar on Grand Avenue in Maspeth and when they arrived, they said they found Ms McNally in critical condition and a man, who was later identified as Pieciak, lying nearby, also with knife wounds, but which were later found to have been self-inflicted.
The couple had lived together for several months in the Glendale neighbourhood.
Both were rushed by ambulance to Elmhurst Hospital where Ms McNally was later pronounced dead.
Ms McNally had lived in New York for around a decade and had been working in various bars and restaurants and had been working for about a year at The Ceili House pub, a popular spot with young Irish emigrants.
