Thousands more children to get school bus tickets in major overhaul of scheme — but cost may rise

Eligibility for school transport is set to be overhauled but the cost could rise from €50 to €75 per primary pupil for the next school year, while post-primary tickets could rise from €75 to €150.

Proposals to overhaul the State’s school transport scheme will likely see thousands more children avail of the service with changes to eligibility but the cost of bus tickets could increase.

Despite major recommendations to modify how the State and Bus Éireann run the service, some changes are likely not to come into effect until the 2025-2026 year or at a later date, which is likely to frustrate parents.
